Two Interesting Community Events from Pinellas County Extension

Did you know that “upcycling” is a major gardening trend? A few minutes on Pinterest will show you the truth of this statement.

People are doing all sorts of cool things with old bicycles, old wheels, even old doors. It’s all about taking so-called “trash” and turning it into items of beauty and value in your landscape.

Of course, there’s an art to this. If you aren’t careful, “upcycling” could look a lot like filling your yard with trash, something neither you nor your neighbors would ultimately appreciate.

That’s why the latest event from Pinellas County Extension is so interesting. It’s a Trash to Treasure course with Florida-Friendly Landscaping Extension agent Brian Niemann.

The class is free, and will be held tomorrow from 2:00 to 3:30 PM on 500 Sunset Drive South in St. Petersburg, FL. You do need to register for the event, which you can do here.

We know this is kind of last minute, but we only just saw the event recently.

If you don’t have time to attend that one we also spotted a July 12th event that nearly all our readers might be interested in: how to keep cooling costs low this summer. This one is taught by three different extension agents.

It also comes with some free stuff: an insulated tote bag, a manual powered LED flashlight, a solar calculator and additional educational materials.

That one’s from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Pinellas County Extension building. Register here.

We’ll continue to keep you updated on interesting community events happening throughout the Tampa Bay area!
